Dry roasting peanuts in a skillet or in the oven does not require any special equipment. Leave the peanuts unsalted or salt them immediately after roasting while the peanut oil still shimmers on the surface of the hot nuts. Warm, fresh roasted peanuts are an excellent, healthy snack, or they can be stored in an airtight container for eating later.
Instructions
On the Stovetop
1. Heat a heavy skillet over medium heat until hot.
2. Pour enough raw peanuts in the bottom of the pan to form a single layer.
3. Use the wooden spoon to stir the peanuts constantly, maintaining them in a layer so the medium heat is consistent.
4. Roast the peanuts until they reach a uniform golden brown.
5. Remove from the heat and allow to cool. (If salted peanuts are desired, add salt before cooling the peanuts down.)
In the Oven
6. Place raw peanuts on a cookie sheet in a single layer. Pre-heat the oven to 325 degrees F.
7. Place the cookie sheet on the center rack of the oven and bake for 10 minutes.
8. Turn the peanuts, using a wooden spoon or spatula, so they can brown on the other side.
9. Bake for an additional 10 minutes or until the peanuts are golden brown.
10. Remove from the oven and allow the peanuts to cool, adding salt if desired.
