Making homemade costume wings can save you money. However, most people hesitate because it seems complicated and takes a lot of time and effort to make realistic and beautiful wings. These simple steps will guide you to make affordable and easy-to-do costume wings.
Instructions
1. Cut the hook of the two hangers leaving the spiral part intact. Take one hanger and bend the hook to the left. Take the other and bend its hook to the right.
2. Place the hangers with bended hooks next to each other. Secure them by wrapping duct tape tightly. Take the other two hangers and place them under the ones that were just taped. Secure them with duct tape also. Now that you have your wires for the wings secured, you can shape your wings with ease. For butterfly wings, make sure that the one above is larger than the one below. For dragonfly wings, make a long oval shape. For fairy wings, shape the wires wider at the center and skinnier on the ends. Use your imagination and create the shape you want for yourself.
3. Take the pantyhose and cut at the center, separating both legs. Insert one leg of the pantyhose to a wing section. Pull tightly and twist the excess at the center (where the hooks of the hangers are) and knot. Using the needle and thread, secure the knot by passing through stitches. Do the same in all of the other wing areas. Stick flowers or ribbons or anything you would want to the center of the wings to cover the stitches and duct tape.
4. Take the elastic and cut according to the length from your shoulder to the back part of the armpit. Tie the elastic to the base wire. Knot securely. Form a loop and tie the other end to the wire base again. This will serve as your armhole for the wings.
5. Get the materials needed to accessorize your wings. Color them with latex paint or spray paint and start sticking ribbons, beads or anything that you desire to make the wings unique and perfect for your costume.
