Make Apple Nachos

Select tart apples for apple nachos.

Sometimes it can be hard to strike a balance between feeding your kids healthy food and the indulgences that they love. While it's imperative to instill healthy eating habits, parents can find a happy medium by serving healthy foods with a few small indulgences on the side. Examples include trail mix with chocolate candy mixed in, and broccoli with melted cheese. One snack that features apples is apple nachos, where sliced apples are drizzled lightly with caramel, nuts, marshmallow and mini chocolate chips. Keep the toppings light and you have a healthy, slightly indulgent treat your kids will love.

Instructions

1. Warm the 1/4 cup caramel dip by placing it in the microwave for 15 to 30 seconds.

2. Place the marshmallows in a large saucepan and with 1/3 cup of butter over medium-low heat. Stir until fully melted.

3. Slice the apples into 1/4-inch slices and arrange the apples on a platter spread out and layered on top of each other.

4. Drizzle the caramel dip over the apples followed by the marshmallow mixture. Don't feel the need to use all of the topping if you think it's too much. Use only the amount you feel comfortable with.

5. Sprinkle on the nuts, chocolate chips and raisins and serve.
