A Rub For Beef

Keep a wide variety of spices on hand to make different beef rubs.

Whether you brought home a giant slab of beef ribs to throw on the grill or a large roast beef to cook in the oven, seasoning enhances the natural beef flavor. There are several ways to season beef, but a dry spice rub is one of the easiest ways to pack flavor into the meat and give it a flavorful crust. Dry rub can be as simple as salt and pepper or elaborate with 10 or more different spices and herbs. Create a dry rub for your beef based on your flavor preferences.

Instructions

1. Combine 1 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup coarse salt and 1/4 cup freshly ground black pepper for a basic beef rub. Add more dry hot spices for a spicier rub or more sugar for a sweeter rub.

2. Lightly brush the beef on both sides with oil.

3. Sprinkle the beef with the dry rub generously on both sides.

4. Place the seasoned meat in the refrigerator to absorb the seasoning for at least two hours before you are ready to cook.

5. Cook the seasoned beef as you planned.
