Salt Almonds

Salted almonds are a healthy treat that's easy to make.

Salted almonds are a healthy and tasty snack that's easy to make at home. The most preferable method is to blanch the almonds first, but plain, unblanched almonds can be used as well. When salting almonds, use only raw unflavored almonds. Buying preshelled almonds will save time. Feel free to play around with this recipe by using different salts such as sea salt or coarse salt. For an exotic taste, try adding flavorful spices such as cinnamon.

Instructions

Blanching the Almonds

1. Heat a pot of water to boiling. Place the almonds in a bowl and pour the boiling water over them. Let the almonds sit for one minute.

2. Drain the water from the almonds and run them under cold tap water to cool. Dry the almonds by laying them on a dry paper towel or cloth.

3. Peel the almonds by holding them between your index finger and thumb and rubbing gently until the skin peels away. Discard the almond skin.

5. Bake the almonds in the oven until they are golden brown, approximately 13 minutes. Remove the almonds from the oven.

6. Stir the almonds to cover with any remaining oil or butter and sprinkle with salt. Leave the almonds to cool. Store in an airtight container.
