How Do You Fry A Won Ton

Serve crispy wontons with sweet or hot dipping sauce.

Wontons are a type of ravioli frequently used in Asian recipes like wonton soup or crab rangoons. The Chinese translation for airy, delicious wontons is "swallowing clouds." These square wrappers may be folded a number of different ways and are easy to boil, steam or fry. For a crispy dish, the best way to treat these wrappers is to stuff and fry them. Fried wontons make nice appetizers for a party or as a side dish for an oriental-inspired meal.

Instructions

1. Line a plate with a paper towel. Pour 3 cups peanut oil into a deep skillet or saucepan. Heat the oil on medium-low.

2. Open the wonton package and lay the stack of wontons on a cutting board. Dampen a paper towel and cover the wontons to keep them moist. Lay one wonton skin on the cutting board. It should be in a diamond shape. Place a small saucer of water next to the cutting board.

3. Spoon one teaspoon of filling, such as cream cheese or crab meat, into the center of the wonton. Dip a finger in the water and rub the wonton edges. Fold the bottom up over the top. Pinch the sides together, sealing in the filling.

4. Place the wonton in the hot oil for 1 minute, then turn the wonton over with a slotted spoon. Cook the wonton another minute or until it is golden brown.

5. Scoop the wonton out of the oil carefully and place it on a paper towel-lined plate. Continue to cook and drain the wontons.
