Lovers of wine usually want to collect it, and once you start collecting wine you will need to store it. If you store wine properly, you can age it to perfection. Improperly stored wine can go bad and might even taste like vinegar. Add this to my Recipe Box.
Instructions
1. Avoid extreme temperature changes. Expansion and contraction through temperature changes will eventually cause the cork to move and allow small amounts of wine into the seal. This will allow air to enter which will ruin the wine.
2. Maintain temperatures between 55 and 58 degrees Fahrenheit for optimal aging of your wine.
3. Control the humidity level to keep it between sixty and eighty percent. If the humidity is too low the cork will dry out and open the seal so air can enter. If humidity is too high the labels will stay wet and will mold.
4. Angle the bottles when you store them so the cork is in contact with the wine. Again this is to prevent the cork from drying out and shrinking allowing air into the bottle.
5. Keep the lights out. Wine is best when aged in the dark. Light will accelerate the aging process and the wine will not taste as good.
6. Prevent vibrations. When aging wine you want the sediment in the wine to settle. Vibrations will cause the sentiment to move around which will prevent the wine from aging properly and affect the taste.
