Make Rice Pudding

Garnish rice pudding with cinnamon, raisins or fruit.

Made primarily from milk and rice, rice pudding is a dessert served all over the world. Rice pudding has numerous varieties. It can be made with chocolate, cinnamon, almonds and fruits such as apples, blueberries and pumpkin. Rice pudding only requires a few ingredients and is simple to make. However, it takes several hours to create because it must have time to simmer on the stove and chill in the refrigerator.

Instructions

1. Add 6 cups of milk, 1 cup of medium-grain rice, 1/2 cup of sugar, 2 tbsp. of butter and 1/4 tsp. of salt into a saucepan. Place the saucepan on a stove burner set at medium heat. Stir the mixture frequently until bubbles begin forming around the edge.

2. Reduce the heat to low and cover the saucepan. Allow the mixture to simmer for one hour or until the rice is very soft. Stir occasionally.

3. Pour in 2 tsp. of vanilla extract while stirring, once the rice is tender. Cover the pan and refrigerate for at least three hours so the pudding can chill.

4. Create creamy rice pudding by beating 1 cup of heavy whipping cream at medium speed until it creates soft peaks. Fold the whipping cream into the pudding using a rubber spatula.

5. Spoon the rice pudding into dessert dishes to serve after refrigerating. Sprinkle 1/4 tsp. of nutmeg on the top of each serving. Create a fruit rice pudding by topping the pudding with a canned peach half and melba sauce, which is made from currant jelly and raspberries.
