Mash Potatoes With A Fork

Mash potatoes with a fork until they reach the desired consistency.

Mashed potatoes are often served as a side dish. Instead of purchasing instant potatoes at the store, you can make your own at home. After you boil the potatoes for the appropriate amount of time, mash them while they are still warm. If you do not have a potato masher or electric mixer handy, you can mash the potatoes with a fork to achieve the desired consistency.

Instructions

1. Drain the boiled potatoes in a colander.

2. Place the potatoes back in the pot you boiled them in. Place the pot over medium heat.

3. Mash the potatoes with a heavy fork. Place the prong end of the fork flat against one of the potatoes. Press down firmly to mash the potatoes. Continue to mash each potato with the fork, and then mash the smaller pieces until the potatoes are smooth.

4. Add your desired seasonings to the potatoes. Add the required amount of milk and butter to the pot according to your recipe. Whisk the ingredients with the potatoes.

5. Add more milk or butter as necessary to achieve your desired consistency.
