1. Check with your local food service store or "members only" discount bulk warehouse. Odds are excellent that either or both of these outlets carry one, two, five and even fifty pound bags of vacuum-packed active dry yeast.
2. Shop online and have bread yeast delivered. There are many baking and bulk food products websites that would be thrilled to hear from you and your credit card. This option makes sense if their shipping and handling costs are less than your transportation costs to get the stores mentioned above.
3. Examine the price on a three-packet strip of active dry yeast. Divide this by three and write down that figure. Now take the price on a one pound bag of the same product and divide by 32, which is a very conservative estimate of how many "packets" are contained within. Compare figures.
