Mixing tomatoes and lettuce together makes a simple yet delicious salad. Leftover salad can wilt quickly unless you separate the ingredients and store the lettuce and tomatoes properly. It may seem like a hassle, but taking the extra time to separate the salad components can earn you a few extra days in which to use the salad ingredients again. It's never a good idea to let the used salad components sit in the refrigerator for more than three days.
Instructions
1. Sift through the salad and pull out all the tomatoes. Put them in a plastic storage container with a lid.
2. Place the lettuce in a strainer. Set the strainer in your sink and turn on cold water.
3. Rinse the salad to remove the leftover tomato juice on the lettuce. The tomato juice can make the lettuce wilt at an accelerated rate, so be sure to rinse the lettuce thoroughly. Pick up the lettuce and shake to remove excess water.
4. Place the lettuce in a plastic storage container with a lid. Store the lettuce and tomatoes in the refrigerator until you next need a salad.
