Prepare Soil For Almond Trees

Almonds grow on trees.

Various types of plants and trees need very different growing conditions to take root and grow up strong, healthy and fruitful. For example, unlike other types of trees, almond trees need particularly dry soil to do well. Without dry soil, the tree may not produce as many or as high quality almonds, or it may not be able to grow to its full potential. To avoid these problems, prepare the soil for your almond trees.

Instructions

1. Avoid watering the soil prior to planting your almond trees. Almond trees need well-drained soil to take root and grow.

2. Turn over the soil several times and allow the various layers to dry out before you plant the almond trees. This will ensure that there's not excessive moisture within the soil.

3. Test out the deepness of the soil. Almond trees need deep soil of several feet or more to take root and grow properly. Before planting your almond trees, till the soil to be sure the various layers are quality soil, rather than clay or rock.

4. Perform a soil analysis test to determine the quality of the soil. Soil-analysis test kits are available from garden supply stores. Look closely at the test results.

5. Balance out the components of the soil based on the soil analysis test. For example, almond trees do not grow well in soil that contains harmful salts. If your soil contains these substances, balance it out by mixing it with soil from a home and garden center made to neutralize harmful salts.
