Make Chinese Sweet & Sour Chicken & Sauce

The next time you crave sweet and sour chicken, you don't need to go to your favorite Chinese restaurant; you can easily prepare it in your own kitchen. Even better, you may modify this basic chicken recipe to suit your family's palate.

Instructions

Preparing the Sweet and Sour Sauce

1. Bring 3/4 cup water to a boil and add brown sugar. Cook for one minute, stirring constantly.

2. Add rice vinegar. Cook for one minute.

3. Combine cornstarch, soy sauce, and water to form a smooth paste.

4. Add cornstarch paste to water-and-vinegar mixture, stirring until thickened.

Preparing the Sweet and Sour Chicken

5. Prepare chicken breasts by boning and skinning them. Cut into bite-sized pieces. Marinate in cooking sherry for 15 minutes.

6. Mix flour, cornstarch, baking soda, garlic powder, and ginger powder together in a small bowl.

7. Coat chicken in beaten egg, then dredge through flour mixture.

8. Heat oil in pan. Once it is hot, add chicken and stir-fry until it is no longer pink, about one minute. Drain on paper towel.

9. Add chicken to pot of sauce. Stir over medium heat about 2 minutes. Serve immediately.
