Types Of Sweet Red Wines

Types of Sweet Red Wines

Red wine has numerous health benefits and is quite versatile; it goes well with many foods ranging from chocolate to steak. While many red wines are dry, there are a number of types of sweet red wines.

White Zinfandel

Though the name says white and the color is pink, White Zinfandel is a red wine. Its color is lighter and its taste is sweeter because the fruit used to make it sits on the red grape skins for less time than true red colored wines.

Port

Port is an especially sweet dessert wine. It is a bit richer and thicker than most wines and tastes great with chocolate.

Merlot

The Merlot grape makes a wine that is gentle and is generally plum-flavored. It is often used as a wine for blending, but also is a type of sweet red wine that goes well with meat.

Chianti

Chianti is an Italian wine that is made from multiple grapes. It is sweet and fruity and is often served with Italian dishes like pasta and pizza.

Shiraz

Though the Syrah grape used for Shiraz originated in France, it is Australia that began to make Shiraz wine. This sweet red wine is popular with spicy dishes.
