Hide your valuables in a hidden pocket.
If you worry about keeping money, ID, keys or other valuable items in your backpack, you can create a hidden pocket inside the bag. This way, even if someone is snooping through your backpack, they won't be able to find your valuables. You don't even need to know sew, since you can make the pocket with adhesive Velcro strips.
Instructions
1. Inspect the inside of your backpack for a location to attach your hidden pocket. It should be somewhere that is not visible, such as behind a fabric flap, inside a pocket or in the bottom corner of the bag.
2. Cut a piece of fabric -- in the same or similar color as the backpack -- about 1/2 inch larger than you want the actual pocket to be. So if you want your hidden pocket to be 5 inches by 5 inches, you need to cut a piece of fabric that measures 5 1/2 inches by 5 1/2 inches.
3. Place the piece of fabric where you want to locate the hidden pocket.
4. Trace around the piece of fabric using tailor's chalk.
5. Cut four pieces of 1/2-inch adhesive Velcro hooking strips, one for each side of the fabric square.
6. Remove the backings from the adhesive Velcro hooking strips and stick them onto all four sides of the fabric square.
7. Cut four pieces of 1/2-inch adhesive Velcro latching strips.
8. Remove the backings from the adhesive Velcro latching strips and stick them to your backpack, just inside the lines you drew with tailor's chalk.
9. Attach the fabric pocket to the inside of the backpack using the Velcro strips. To open and close the pocket, separate the top Velcro strips.
